Our last unit for the year has been portrait drawing. We started with a portrait pretest. This is mine below. As you can tell I was not a naturally talented portrait drawer.
After the pretest we watched some videos and looked at other online sources. I was worried at first because the people went through everything so fast and I had no idea how I would do that. One of the videos we watched was a woman drawing a simple portrait. I was amazed when she started with lines. This was the first I had heard of drawing lines to start a face drawing. We then made a facial proportion guideline. Mrs. Hein went through everything step-by-step. I learned so much. Here is my guideline below.
We then had a practice challenge. In this challenge we had to cut out face parts from magazines and draw them. We also had to shade everything. I learned that it is harder to draw face parts when the face is not straight on. It was also harder than drawing everything on one face because things were not easy to proportion because there were no lines to use. I have improved so much since my pretest. I have learned how to shade softly and that has helped a lot with facial drawing.
I would like to thank Mrs. Hein for an amazing year and for showing me that I am not hopeless. Mrs. Hein has helped me improve so much!
